Bottom Line:
Superb ultra wide angle for full frame, especially strong in the 16-24mm range, gets weaker by 28mm. Stepped down it can deliver crisp sharpness even in the most extreme corners. I give it 5 stars due to the price/performance ratio. I shoot test charts and real world images to confirm chart results. My recommendation for this lens is for FX/Full Frame cameras. For crop sensors get something lighter and cheaper.

Excellent Optics, Great Build, A little heavy, December 14, 2010 This review is from: AF 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO FX Lens for Nikon (Accessory) I've never had an aversion to heavy gear, but my problem with this lens is that I am a little scared to put it on a tripod without a tripod ring. It does not appear that there is space for a ring and Tokina doesn't make one, but this lens I think would benefit. It is very very heavy.
Optically, for me, it's fantastic. I don't shoot resolution charts and then look at the 100% crops, I just look at my shots and decide if they are acceptable. It appears to be better even than the 11-16mm, optically speaking.
I love Tokina's AF to MF switch. Even without having full time manual override in the way that Canon or Nikon do it, it is very easy and intuitive to use.
I gave it 4 out of 5 because of the weight and the lack of ability to use any screw on filters. I knew that it would not accept filters when I bought it, but I still feel like it should get docked for that.

Not very good, May 2, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: AF 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO FX Lens for Nikon (Accessory) I was so looking forward to this lens after seeing some really good reviews on it. The problem was at f/2.8. Everything looked so hazy and had a strange blur around the edges heading toward the center. Even the center wasn't all that sharp as stated by other reviewers. At f/4.0 and up it begins to get sharper but still not as sharp as I'd like. I know it's a wide angle lens and for landscape I should use f/8 or so but I bought an f2.8 lens and I would have loved to use it when I need to and get some decent photos. However, I am not very happy with Tokina's quality control. I think I had a defective lens. Autofocus is pretty fast and build quality is great but image quality left little to be desired. I am returning this lens thanks to Amazon's great return policy. I am hesitant to even request an exchange.
