Zoom with a view!, February 16, 2012 By Macbook toter (Boulder, CO, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Nikon 1 NIKKOR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 VR (Black) (Electronics) The 10-100 mm zoom for the Nikon 1 makes the compact SLR into a real camcorder with smooth and silent focal length changes. Optical quality is typical Nikon -- the best. No, it won't fit in a pocket because the lens is as big and as and heavier than the camera body. Autofocus tracks a selected subject accurately.

Expensive but makes V1 Viable, March 13, 2012 This review is from: Nikon 1 NIKKOR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 VR (Black) (Electronics) Really big, but is on the camera 95% of the time. Other lenses are ok, but this allows closeups, widish angle, good video control and versatility that the others don't. My primary camera is a 7d so even with this brick on the front of the V1 it is still far easier to tote around than the 7d. Very expensive, but noticibly better glass than the factory standards that come with camera.

1. Big lens on a small body which somehow contradict with the concept of compact DSLR, which make the camera a bit awkward to use.
2. Heavy which add to the awkwardness of the camera, it gives a strange feel when holding, the lens is heavier than the body.
3. F stop start at 4.5, which make it even more difficult to use this camera at night.
Pros:
1. Better quality picture than the kit lens
2. Amazing focal length
3. Very smooth operation
4. It zoom in and out internally which make it easier to take voyeur pictures
5. Fast Zooming.
Bottom line if you don't mind the weight and size this is a great lens.
Buy the 72mm B+W filter UV protection, however if you have a 77 mm B+W polarized filter instead of buying a new filter 72 mm for USD 200 buy B+W step down from 77 to 72 for only USD 20 check the link below:
