Vivitar 4 Elements 2X Tele Converter For Nikon Reviews
16 of 17 people found the following review helpful Okay for snapshots, less so for creative work, nature, sports, ..., March 1, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Vivitar 4 Elements 2X Tele Converter For Nikon (Electronics) I bought the Vivitar TC, and looked at this as an experiment. For 80 or 90 bucks, I thought, it's worth the chance. I'd been hoping that Nikon's teleconverter was just wildly overpriced at $600. Maybe it is - I still don't know. But I can say that this TC produces very-noticeably muddy, chromatically aberrated (blue on one edge of the subject, red on the opposite) images. It also causes my D90 and Nikon 80-200mm F2.8 lens to hunt viciously for focus, even on a mildly cloudy day. Often, this hunting for focus restarts spuriously after it had settled on a focus previously. I had it on a tripod, so there was no camera movement. I have posted a comparative photo in the product review.
I would not recommend this item.
My guess is that the Nikon is better, but nowhere near significantly better to justify the 8x cost. :-(

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful Vivitar 2x Teleconverter, February 2, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Vivitar 4 Elements 2X Tele Converter For Nikon (Electronics) This little addition is a real lifesaver for me. I bought it for my Nikon D3000
so I would have a way to achieve more distance with the other lenses. The standard
package with the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm work very well with the converter.
The piece is very light and on my camera it fits very snug and no issue with it falling off.
The lenses that fit on the converter are also real snug. I also have a Sigma 70-300mm
which is the main reason why I made the purchase. It equates to a 140-600mm reach
which is better than having it look across the street for distance.
For the most part, it works great for my reasons and since I have used it a lot
in the past month, I would not give it up for anything.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful very good, expanding your reach 2x, November 27, 2011 By This review is from: Vivitar 4 Elements 2X Tele Converter For Nikon (Electronics) If you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on pro tele lens, this tele converter is a great solution. This is for outdoor shooting such as bird watching. 200 mm lens will become 400 mm. It works better on enough light situation. I think it is designed for static or slow moving objects. It might not be good for fast moving sports unless it is in a bright condition.
