This multiplier was purchased for a very specific purpose. I went on safari in Africa and knew I would want to get closer shots than my conventional or 75-300mm lens. Due to weight and space limitations for travel as well as cost limitations, another telephoto was not an option. The Kenko also provided the direct coupling for autofocus, auto-exposure and stability of the Nikon.

On the safari, I got great pictures even handheld. I took several thousand pictures many using the Teleplus and my telephoto together. It proved a great addition to my camera bag and provided great pictures, many of professional quality. I would not have these memories without the Teleplus! The pictures are clear and sharp beyond expectations.

    I recommend it!

    4.0 out of 5 stars Works great with Nikon 300/f4 AF-S, April 9, 2012

I notice how the price of this item swings up and down. I paid about 110USD and I find it fantastic value for money. First I tried it on my 55-200VR, but it did not autofocus. Now I am using it on my 300/f4 AF-S and it works like a charm (Nikon d5000, mostly birds and animal photography). I have not noticed any reduction in AF speed or any downgrade in image sharpness or colors. I have done lots of parallel tests with/without the converter and cropping the images to the same scale. The converter cause a clear improvement compared to a cropped image without converter.
With a 300/f4 it is for daytime use in rather good weather conditions allowing enough light as it makes the lens slower, in cloudy weather too slow for fast moving objects (e.g. birds rapidly turning their heads). It is not the fault of the converter, just physics. On a good modern camera it can be compensated with higher ISO to some extent, but at these situations (morning, evening, or bad weather) I prefer to use... Read more
