The simple fact that I can go from 18 to 200 without changing lenses is awesome. I take photos for hobby so I'm no expert and since I have nothing to compare it with I really don't have any complains.
One thing I did notice is to be careful taking close shots with the built-in flash and the hood on the lens. It puts an ugly shade on your subject that it would make it hard to fix it in Photoshop.

As a newspaper photographer, I loved the wide angle and the versatility to go long with it. Then I got a used D300 that came with the same type of lens but a Sigma, and immediately noticed the Sigma was better in many ways. The Sigma is faster to autofocus and has a better zoom lock. The Sigma is a little heavier, possibly because of better construction or heavier glass, and it zooms further (18-250) than the Nikon Nikkor. I like my Sigma more than my Nikon, plus, I would have saved $200 had gotten the Sigma in stead of the Nikkor.
